Setting up a sprinkler for landscape irrigation

On Feb. 13, 2007, the St. Johns River Water Management District’s Governing Board endorsed “Standards for Landscape Irrigation in Florida” prepared by the statewide committee on landscape irrigation and Florida-friendly design standards. These standards include scientifically based model guidelines for urban, commercial and residential landscape irrigation, including drip irrigation, for plants, trees, sod and other landscaping. Section 373.228, Florida Statutes, requires local governments to use these standards and guidelines when developing landscape irrigation and Xeriscape (Florida-friendly) ordinances. Local governments are required by Sections 125.568 and 166.048, Florida Statutes, to consider adopting ordinances that will reduce the amount of water used to irrigate landscape.

The District is updating its landscape water conservation ordinance guidelines. The document will be uploaded to this Web page when complete. This document will provide guidance and example language for the creation of local landscape water conservation ordinances that are consistent with the standards and guidelines provided in “Standards for Landscape Irrigation in Florida” and that meet the requirements specified in Section 373.185, Florida Statutes.
